Give me your idea of how the scenario plays out if Mitt Romney in opposition to Donald Trump's nomination, decides to run an independent presidential campaign with Bernie Sanders as VP. I am thinking for the latter part perhaps Bernie Sanders after the DNC commitee email leak and the discovery that the democratic primary was rigged for Hillary, rescinds his prior endorsement for her and becomes Romney's VP in exchange for some sort of policy concessions and some say in Cabinet appointments (Something which Romney depending on how you view him, either as a pragmatic moderate or flip flopper would be willing and able to do). The main question for this alternate timeline would be:
-Would they win any states and subsequently electoral votes? If so how many?
-How would it affect the election overall? Would Trump still win perhaps by a bigger margin or would Hillary win in this timeline? Maybe even a Romney victory somehow?
-What would be the greater long term implications in the political scene? Perhaps the rise of some sort of minor third party similar to the Reform Party in the 90's after Ross Perot's first run in 1992?
