Regarding the map you've posted showing a balkanized United States, I genuinely feel that Maine would have its own goals of remaining independent. Maine was always a self reliant state until urban influence infiltrated the local government, purchasing up all the property and bastardizing the culture to host their own idea of a "adventurous tourist destination". In the current timeline, Maine's resentment for this out of state influence is in full bloom, and its common place for Mainers to enact favoritism and to ignore that foreign presence that's occupying them. Wouldn't it make sense in a more nationalist timeline for Mainer's to fully involve themselves in pushing out these cultural leeches? Btw, fun fact: Maine to this day has "Lobster Wars" in which local companies will sabotage, sink, and even kill their rivals- there's a commonplace of bodies being found on desolate coastal islands.
